Staff Profiles
Maine Teen Camp employs well over 100 staff each summer. We boast a high percentage of staff who return each year, but would like to pay special tribute to a few staff who have spent over a decade at our camp!
Marilynn Cashmore. Marilynn resides in Colchester, Connecticut and is a retired teacher. Marilynn has worked in camp administration for many years, and has spent over 20 years at MTC as our summer Office Manager. Marilynn tells us that she loves her summer role, as it helps her get to know each and every camper and staff!
Nigel Anthony. Nigel is from Antigua, West Indies and is a USPTR certified Tennis Pro. He is a private instructor and Director of Tennis at the resort of Curtain Bluff. Each summer, Nigel is one of MTC’s two Tennis Program Directors. Nigel’s enthusiasm on the courts is heard camp-wide on a daily basis!
Desney “Dillo” Williams. Dillo is from Antigua, West Indies and is a USPTR certified Tennis Pro. He is a private instructor at the resort of Curtain Bluff. Each summer, Dillo is one of MTC’s two Tennis Program Directors. Dillo maintains that he returns to camp each summer because he just loves seeing the progression of the campers he teaches each summer.
Aurel Peterson. Aurel resides in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and teaches art at School One, a private high school for alternative learning. Aurel is the school’s Visual Arts Coordinator and student advisor. Aurel is MTC’s Art Director, overseeing all art programs. When asked why she returns to camp each summer, Aurel says that she just loves being in Maine and being a part of the importance of camp learning.
Christian Perry. Christian is originally from Wales, UK. Christian currently teaches at King Middle School in Portland, Maine. Christian has held several roles at camp, including a Head Counselor and most recently has been one of our two Music Department Directors for the past several summers. Christian says that he returns to camp because of his love of music education, and he gets to rock and roll all summer long! Christian met his wife, Sarah, at MTC!
Sherry Main. Sherry is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and teaches school at the Garrett Williamson Foundation. She has held several roles at camp, including counselor and Academic Coordinator, but in recent years, has been camp’s Program Purchaser. Responding to why she returns, Sherry states that her reason for MTC is simple….she loves the people!
Bruce Van derRiet. Originally from South Africa, Bruce has held many roles at camp from Head Counselor, to Waterfront Director, and most recently, our Travel Director. When not at camp, Bruce works as a network technician. He met his wife, Meagan, at MTC, who has been our Store Manager, Trips Coordinator, and Housekeeping Manager. Bruce and Meagan are considering a permanent move to Maine in the near future!
Burdette ‘Spaceman’ Martin. ‘Spaceman’ resides in Antigua, West Indies and has quite literally grown up at camp, being a camper and Leadership Trainee, then onto a counselor and soccer instructor, to a certified Ropes Course facilitator. When not at camp, Burdette is a resort waiter at Curtain Bluff, Antigua. An incredible asset to our staff, Burdette’s enthusiasm, loyalty, and love of the camp community is renowned. There is no one on staff who is more loved by our campers than Spaceman!
Mark ‘Flip Flop’ Vierkotten. Flip Flop, a school teacher in New Zealand, began his camp experience as a counselor, moving onto the role of Head Counselor, onto Evening Program Coordinator, and most recently was camp’s Facility and Maintenance Manager. A seasoned traveller and gifted musician, Flip is recognized camp-wide for his ability to organize, wear costumes, write songs, and produce video masterpieces!
