Maine ‘Green’ Camp

At MTC, we want to minimize the impact our community has on the environment, also demonstrating to our campers and staff how easy it is to help the environment. Part of our ongoing and improving efforts include that of purchasing energy from Maine Renewable Energy, primarily produced by small hydro and bio-mass. Our replacement hot water heaters are highly energy efficient gas-on-demand heaters. Lighting in camp has, where appropriate, been switched to energy efficient CFL lamps or energy efficient lighting. Our recycling program reduces half the waste that MTC sends to landfills. Our use of Maine’s pure artesian water replaces bottled water wherever possible. We plant trees and allow the Maine forest to exist in its natural state. These are amongst the specific measures we have taken. Community living as practiced by summer camps, reduces every individual’s impact on the environment to a fraction of what it is for the rest of the year. Simply being at camp and living closer to nature is being good to the environment!
