FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What are the major program offerings at MTC?

MTC offers high quality instruction and dozens of choices within the following program areas: Creative Arts, Performance Arts, Landsports, Watersports, Music and Recording, Visual Arts, Trips and Travel, Academics/ESL, Adventure Challenge Activities. Every night we have a new theme to our Evening Program.

How is MTC different than other summer choices?

Our entire program from daily activities to evening programs and social events is designed to meet the interests of the “teen” population. We are focused exclusively on the needs of teens and we are able to offer unique program choices.

Do most people come to MTC with friends?

Occasionally friends will travel to camp together, but most campers who enroll at MTC choose to come by themselves. The nice thing about this is that it helps to avoid clusters of teens who already know each other, therefore making the transition into camp much easier.

What is the facility like?

Our camp is in a beautiful area of Maine, nestled in tall pine trees and surrounded by lakes. Our facility is centered around a “Maine Lodge” and surrounded by both rustic and contemporary cabins and studios.

The female cabins and male cabins are on completely separate ends of the camp. The cabins for younger females hold 8–12 girls and 2 counselors. They are equipped with electricity and their own bathrooms. We have two full shower houses very close to all cabins on the girls line. The youngest girls cabins have their own shower in their cabins. The larger, modern female cabins hold up to 20 girls and 4–5 female counselors.

The male cabins are fully equipped with showers, bathrooms, and electricity and are located on the beautiful lake side of camp. Our boys cabins are larger, fitting approximately 20 campers and 4–5 counselors.

How many teens attend MTC and where do they come from?

We normally enroll 275 teens and try to keep approximately the same numbers of girls and boys. Approximately 20% of our campers come from other countries of the world. Our American campers come from all areas of the USA including the west coast. MTC is truly a diverse community!

How old are your staff and where do they come from?

The average age of our staff is 24. Many staff return each summer and about 40% are international. We hire many different types of professionals and skilled artists. Our staff are as diverse as our teens, adding significantly to the interesting cultural mix that we achieve every summer.

Should my camper bring a cell phone?

Cellular phones may NOT be used in camp and must be kept in our office until departure. We do understand that parents feel better knowing that their camper has their phone when travelling to/from camp on travel days.

Is there a parent visiting day?

No, just call ahead and let us know your visiting plans. We are happy to see you any day!

Where can I find more information that will help me with my questions about my camper’s stay at MTC?

All parents should read or download a copy of our Parent Handbook. This is an excellent resource for families!
