FAQs for All Campers
Here are answers to some commonly asked questions. If you have additional questions or concerns, contact us and we will reply within a day or so.
What are the more popular activities at camp?
Our campers choose a variety of activities, but some of the most popular are waterskiing, wakeboarding, music, and tennis.
Do most campers enroll with friends?
Occasionally yes, but most of our new campers arrive at camp without knowing anyone! About 60% of our campers are new each summer.
Where do MTC campers come from?
80% of our campers are Americans, from all over the country! 20% are from countries all over the world, so we offer an international camp experience!
What about the staff? How old are they, and where do they come from?
Our staff population is about 120, and they come from all over the USA and the world. The average age of our counselor staff is 24 years old.
When can I call home?
There will be plenty of opportunity for you to call home during your stay at camp. Our Camp Store has four phones inside for camper use.
Cell phones are NOT permitted in camp. They must be kept in our office the entire time campers are at camp. We return camper’s cell phones at the end of camp for travel purposes.
Are there computers for emailing?
YES! MTC will assign you a camper email address specifically for use at camp. The computers are for email purposes only and campers are NOT connected to the internet for web surfing.
Is there a Family Visiting Day?
No. Given the age of our campers, and the wide-spread location of families, we do not have an official visiting day, but we welcome families at any time. If families wish to visit, please simply contact us ahead of time to arrange it.
When do campers receive mail?
Mail will be delivered to campers as soon as it is sorted, usually at our Camp Meetings before dinner. Make sure to give friends and family our mailing address before you leave!
What time do campers wake up and go to bed?
Our wake up at 8:00am and breakfast is at 8:30 in the Maine Lodge. We go to bed after our evening program activity at 11:00pm. Sometimes we will have an unscheduled "late" wake-up.
What time is lunch and dinner?
Lunch is at 1:00 and continues to 2:15, the start of the fourth period of the day. Dinner is after our Camp Meeting at 6:00.
Do campers get any free time?
Yes. The sixth period of the day is the free period. Many campers will go for a swim, get snacks or use the phone at the camp store, or work on a special art project that they have started. During lunch and after dinner is also a good time to catch up with your friends.
How do I get my medications at camp?
Under ACA requirements and state laws, we ask that your medication(s) are kept safely and distributed by our infirmary staff. The nurses distribute your medications at mealtimes or when necessary. We ask that families will send enough medication to last through the camper’s stay with us, by sending the medications ahead of time with a carrier service (FedEx, DHL, UPS, etc.) This way, we are certain to get any medications to our nursing staff accurately and in a timely manner.
How do campers choose their activities?
On the first full day of camp, campers will be given a camp facility tour, which serves to introduce the many activities that they may choose. That afternoon, campers will have the opportunity to “sign up” for the activities they select. Also on the first day, we conduct routine swim tests to allow campers to use the waterfront at camp. Our tennis staff also assesses tennis skills to those wanting to participate in our tennis program. Our music staff will do the same.
If campers are unhappy with any of your program activities or wish to discuss any issue related to their schedules, see our Program Director.
What should I bring?
We have put together a packing list (PDF) of suggested items to bring with you to camp.
